9. Text.	John sends a lot of letters but receives no answers. What has happened? Is that Žano does not want to correspond with John? Best regards to the parents.
10. Picture.	New York City. Hudson and Manhatten Tube. A scheme of subway tonnels.
11. Comments.	John uses the new Latvian orthography, which allows to decide that he attended school during the war time. He also writes in this orthography with errors, for example, he does not mark long vowels at all and wries yeb instead of jeb etc.

9. Text.	Hilda asks to inform her at once when the drawings will be needed. They will not be ready till Sunday and may be she can bring them Monday evening.

11. Comments.	The card was cancelled in the mail car of the train Riga-Liepaja, so it is not exactly known where it came from. I should study this card more to prove that it was written by Hilda Vīka, an artist.

9. Text.	The authors write to the grandfather and to Lelia who is the godmother to one of them. They worry a lot what is going on with them in Latvia because they have not answers to their cards and letter. They themselves are well however have very tedious time because they always are alone. They cry very frequently especially Lelia who wants back to the grandfather. Oleg is always busy with his soldiers. Please, write frequently, do not spare money for stamps. M.V. and O.L.

11. Comments.	The authors of the card have emigrated together with the Germans at the end of 1939 in spite that they seem to be Russians. Evidently they had some German relatives. More about this family in the special Page with letters of German resettlers.

Aber wie es Dir gegangen? Wohl recht viel mit I. zusammen gewesen? She asks also to send a message with Mr. Lūčiņš or by mail to Gulbene, Pienakalns, "Ielejas". Mr. Upmanis should be informed that the author has yet done nothing for the tabacco problem but will do as soon as it wll be possible. D.L.

11. Comments.	The card has never been sent by post so I think it was attached to the parcel. As for the tobacco problem, I can add that problems with tobacco supply existed during the wartime.

9. Text.	The author expresses best wishes to her/his children at the 10th anniversary of their marriage. Also wishes happiness to Peter and greets Jāzeps in the Nameday.

11. Comments.	The card was not possible to date because the stamp is torn off. However it was printed in 1937. The author had not much practice in writing in Latvian.

9. Text.	Hilda has a rest in the well-known resort Ķemeri. She asks why the addressee does not inform her what is happening at home. How is little Rasma? The author wanted to go to Liepaja last Sunday because then were no baths. But she did not because this should be rather tiresome journey.

11. Comments.	The stamps are torn off therefore only the front side could help to date the card. Vadoņa (Leader's) street in Dagavpils could exist only after 1934 when the Vadonis (Leader) Kārlis Ulmanis took the leadership.

9. Text.	Hello Alvī (may be nickname for Alvīne). The author informs that last night Spodris arrived for a leave of 2 weeks. Now the addressee could visit Strenči and meet Spodris. Mummy badly hurt her leg and now can not do much. The author does what he/she can but it is impossible to do all because now Marija also is not there. Sure better time will come once.

11. Comments.	Spodris definitely served in the Nazi Army. It is unknown what happened with Marija, she could be called in the worker service and sent to Germany. The nickname Gaša does not look realistic but this was my last variant.

10. Picture.	New year card
11. Comments.	The printing of the cancellation on the card allows one to read only a part of the name of the postoffice: Jaun. Only Jaunklidzis fits well from a lot of post offices beginning with Jaun-* . In the book about Latvian officers arrested by Soviet officials Sen. Lieut. Osvalds Ķezberis is mentioned. His name is also mentioned in the text of R.Gabris memoires. The name Ķebers is correct. At the first glance it seems wrong and I was surprised that one of Ķezberis family signed his/her name with an error, however the TD 1939 for Jaunklidzis post office gives a subscriber Ķebers Karlis in Jaunkausiņi farm. Jaun- means New-, so Jaunkausiņi farm was once created near Kausiņi farm maybe as a farm for a younger son of Kausiņi holder. The difference in names can be explained by a mistake of a pagasts official long time ago by registrating people or issuing the passport. This mistake omitting one letter was later conserved in all the documents for all descendants.

11. Comments.	I suppose that both ladies were for some time together in the hospital and now the first who left it writes to that who stayed there. Actually the name is written as Fremanis but it should be a mistake

9. Text.	The author gratulates Ernestine Karlovna with the birthday on November 10. She has good job but feels herself awfully lonely.

11. Comments.	There are serious problems with the date of the card. It is sent after 1918 because in the address the country - Latvia is written and before the addressee informed Mme de Leer that the street name in her address is changed. Romanovskaja is the street name used before 1918 because Romanov was the family name of the Tzar family. Now this street is called Lāčplēša iela.

9. Text.	Zoja writes to Iročka that she is awfully bored and recalls quite often how they spent time in Riga. She will go to Riga only in the new year. She asks Iročka to visit the Sir who has a present for her - Zoja has received a letter from Male (?) for Irina however the letter contains nothing important. Zoja has got a ring.

11. Comments.	Iročka is a Russian style nickname for Irina or Irena. The letter is written in excellent Latvian however the signature Zoja is in Russian. At least I can not read it in another way. The name Male is also in Russian if I have read it correctly. And it was difficult to decipher the name in her address she wrote additionally so I am not sure on Reingold. The first variant was Reinvold but it seems a not existing name
