zieds1mazs.gif (257 bytes) Marriage in Nazi time

2 Names: Grāvelsiņš, Venners

During the WW2, when the region of Latvia was under Nazi Germany (1941-1944), the legal principles of the marriages remained the same as they were in independent Latvia, but some new details were to be taken into account.

Here a document from the Orthodox church archive in Smiltene is published (in Latvian). It came on March 5, 1942 from the town municipality and was based on the orders of the officials of Valmiera district. The document informed the Priest that the local people and the Germans who have come from Germany should not be joined in matrimony. The rules for marriages between these two groups were promised to be issued later.

The document was undersigned by the towns foreman J.Venners and the secretary V.Grāvelsiņš.
