Initially this Page presented information and photographs of the grandfather of Grant Lusis - Rudolfs Lusis. Rudolfs went away to war, and the family has no information about his fate. The photographs and other information still are available at the end of this Page.

Grant Lusis in his search of the information about the grandfather received some texts from Latvia' s archives that are in Latvian and he asked the discussion group ROOTs to help him with translation.

Those having any information about Rudolfs Lūsis are asked to contact Grant Lusis by address Grant.Lusis###horizons.govt.nz. Please, change all three #'s to @ if really contacting him.

Here a group photograph of Latvia's Army soldiers is presented. The picture is from the family archive of the descendants of Rudolfs Lūsis. According to the information received from his grandson Grant Lusis in News Zealand, R.Lūsis was born in Riga, supposedly, on the 3rd of July 1913. His parents names were Janis and Anna. His father was a blacksmith. He had an older brother named Edgars and two sisters named Zelma and Elsa. There could be other children. R.Lūsis married Anita Laugalis on the 10th of April 1939. They had 2 children together. He went away to war, and the family has no information about his fate.

Any people with any information about Rudolfs Lūsis are asked to contact Grant Lusis by address Grant.Lusis###horizons.govt.nz. Please, change all three #'s to @ if really contacting him.

On this photograph Rudolfs Lūsis is in the back row to the far right of the picture. All men are in the uniforms of Latvia's Army and, as far as I can see, have the first rank of non-comissioned officers. Quite possibly they were called in to train for the next rank. Taking into account their age, they could not be on mandatory service.

The inscription on the backside informs that the photograph was taken in June 1940 in Viļaka. As you may know on June 14, 1940 the Red Army invaded Latvia and some months later Latvia was incorporated into the USSR. Latvia Army was included in the Red Army and many militaries perished.

I can read the following names written on the backside:

1. Fridrichsons
2. R.Telšs
3. A.Svarnieks (or Svarinieks)
4. E.Damanis
5. N.Kaspirskis (or Kasperskis)
6. K.Pinksis
7. A.Prūsis
