Samuel Strauch (1741-1822) was a rich businessman in Riga. In his memoirs he informs about many of his relatives and about the names of his father - Heinrich Strauch, who was artisan's son in Tukums and of his mother - Gertrutha Margaretha b. Häffcken, a daughter of a goldsmith in Riga. Gertrutha Margaretha had a married sister Anna Dorothea Hahn

	It is quite possible that this Samuel Strauch was born Jan. 17, 1802, studied law in Tartu [Dorpat] University, worked in the Vidzeme [Livland] province governement and died 1832 /Album D/. The same list of the students of this University informs that another Samuel Strauch was born July 20, 1832, graduated Riga province gymnasium and studied zoology in Tartu [Dorpat] University, went abroad in 1856, lived near Dresden in Pillnitz, and died Oct. 16, 1885.
