zieds1mazs.gif (257 bytes) Maps of German population in Latvia

Here a map from the book of Karl Freiherr von Manteuffel gen. Zoege-Katzdangen Dr. Dr. H.C. Kreismarschall A.D. Meine Siedlungsarbeit in Kurland (My work on settling in Kurland) is published. This is a rather large map of Latvia's western part that should demonstrate the results of the migration activities of the author. I have scanned only 2 fragments of it. The first one shows the distribution of German population in pagasti of Kurzeme [Kurland]. The second one (see below) shows the location of a German colony Irši [Hirschenhof] in Vidzeme [Livland].

The text of the book (in German) you may also find on this Site.

The map depicts pagasti (Gemeinde) that are designed by their number in the appropriate apriņķis (Kreis). The second figure (below) stands for the number of German inhabitants in the pagasts.

This information is duplicated also in the following table:

Now another map follows that shows the location of Hirschenhof with 1561 German in Madona aprinkis.

This map shows also Skrīveri [Römershof] pagasts with 157 German inhabitants.
