zieds1mazs.gif (257 bytes) Families of unfamiliar family names

21 Photograph

2 Names: Lauks, Auniņš
These names were mentioned in the inscriptions on the photographs.

I can not identify straightforwardly the people pictured on the photographs that are gathered in this page. I think, however, that people whose relatives should be found here would recognize them at once. The first names of the people that are known in all cases could provide some clues.

AncisJancis__.JPG (6425 bytes) Long letter to Alma with explanation that a human should not be alone and with expression of the hope that Alma soon will also be married. Written by Anna and Jānis on Sep.29, 1934 in Eliši locality.
AnnaJekabs__.JPG (6316 bytes) Anna and Jēkabs on March 2, 1930.
Photographed in Daugavpils fortress.
AnceVilis__.JPG (6484 bytes) Anna and Vilis in Liepāja Feb. 3, 1923
AnnaUnZanis__.JPG (6665 bytes) To Valda from Anna and Žanis. In Zaķi farm, March 24, 1940
DonatsFam__.JPG (6855 bytes) Inscription: A keepsake from the family of brother Donats, though one is absent, Staska was not at home. April 1939.
Staska is a nickname for Stanislavs. Unfortunately, I could not decipher the place name where they came from. From the person names it is rather clear they came from Latgale region.
ErikaUnKaziks__.JPG (7910 bytes) To Antons from Erika and Kaziks (Kazimirs). June 9, 1935.
Photographed by J.Ozols, but it is not known where. I just think that Antons and Kazimirs are the first names that are much more widely used in Latgale region.
Kazimirs had the rank of corporal.
MazieTris__.JPG (7792 bytes) Inscription: A keepsake from my beloved children Gunars 3 years old, Alfiņa 6 y.o., Žoržiks 8 y.o. on June 6, 1931.

Alfiņa seems to be a deminutive of Alfa - a rather rare first name, I should say. Žoržiks may be a deminutive of Žoržs or Georgs.

HertaUnAleksandrs__.JPG (9103 bytes) Herta and Aleksandrs. Aug. 30, 1931
Hildegarde2__.JPG (8307 bytes)

Hildegarde1__.JPG (7519 bytes)

The inscriptions written in German assert that Hildegard and Ernst married in February 1943 in Riga. Hildegard had a sister Elly (Ella, Elvira, Eleonore)
As I realize, they could not arrange great wedding, because it was the war time. They just went to the office, signed papers and then changed rings.
JelinaHarijs__.JPG (7362 bytes) Jelina and Harijs. May 29, 1927 in Riga.
The name Jelina sounds rather strange, may be it was Helena.
KlaraIndra__.JPG (8128 bytes) To Vera from Klāra and Indra. Riga. Dec.24, 1942
MarijaJanis__.JPG (8342 bytes) To Anna in the day of confirmation. Marija and Jānis. Nov.2, 1919. Cēsis [Wenden]
MarijaJanisSalac__.JPG (6196 bytes) Marija and Jānis. Mazsalaca. Dec.26, 1925
Markus__.JPG (6059 bytes) Inscription on the frontside: These are me and my cousin Milda.
Inscription on the backside: Best wishes in the New Year. Markus. Dec.31, 1911.
MinkaAlfrids__.JPG (10192 bytes) To Elza and Alberts from Minka, Alfrīds and the aunt. July 31, 1938.
Photographed in Riga.
Minka is a nickname, but I could not imagine for what first name.
NinaAlfons__.JPG (7086 bytes) To Miss Lilija Lauks from Nina and Alfons. Sep.18, 1932. Talsi
NinaMatiss__.JPG (6995 bytes) Nina and Matīss in Strautmaļi farm on Nov.18, 1933.
OlaUnAlfrids__.JPG (8141 bytes) Par mīļu piemiņu svainenei Ženijai no Oļas un Alfrida un brālim Arvidam. Riga Oct.21, 1926.
It follows from the text that on the photograph there are pictured Olga and Alfrids, and Alfrids had a brother Arvids whose wife was Ženija.
Photographed in Riga.
VeltaPauls__.JPG (7648 bytes) To the mother and father from Velta and Pauls. Oct. 28, 1939
ZosijaAntons__.JPG (8502 bytes) Zosija and Antons.
Photographed in Krāslava. May be not Zosija but Losija. Zosija could be a nickname for Sophie. No variants for Losija.
ZenijaArvids__.JPG (9427 bytes) Rather long letter from Ženija to Arvids is written on the backside of the photograph. Its main idea is that they both can and should restart a new life. Some time before the letter was written an inscription was made on Jan.3, 1937 on the photograph that informs that it was sent to Auniņš family.
I think that they are Ženija and Arvids who have already been mentioned in a photograph above - Olga and Alfrids.
Photographed in Riga.
